Intercalated Studentship

Currently £35,000 per annum are set aside for these studentships which is divided between 7 Medical Schools on a rotational basis. Each School is invited to use the sum of £5,000 flexibly to support up to 3 students per School on the basis of fees and/or maintenance. Schools are expected to provide the Treasurer with evidence that there is a selection process for the awards by competition and at the end of the studentship a report is submitted to the Honorary Treasurer following the award of the Intercalated Degree.

In practice, each year the Treasurer writes to the 7 Schools whose turn has come for an allocation of a studentship, and encloses nomination forms to be completed by both the student and the School. With the establishment of 4 new Medical Schools, the cycle may alter in the near future and further details will be posted on the web site if any change to the current pattern is adopted by the Annual General Meeting.

A second award of £600 is made each year to each Medical School to provide bursaries for students who wish to undertake medical research during either a special study module or avacation. This sum is made available automatically to each Medical School, but a report is required summarising the use of these awards.
